Alto Conn ChuBerry (1926)

Still highly sought-after among jazz musicians : the Conn New Wonder series 2 (better known as the ChuBerry). These were built from mid-1924 and were the successor to the New Wonder series 1. Difference : the ChuBerry has the fingernail Gis key : the typical feature of this sax. Otherwise they are completely identical, although the ChuBerry is much more desirable..... These are fantastic saxes, obviously hand-built and very robust. They feature rolled tone holes and the famous microtuner on the neck. The full and warm tone is great for jazz, blues and ballads.

Yet another unique vintage Conn alto saxophone at MROsaxophones! This is a rare example from the Transitional period: the transition phase from the ChuBerry to the 6M. Not only is this one in near mint condition, it is also the most sought-after model with the so-called Art Deco engraving. These were built in limited numbers in 1930 and 1931, first in the B and Bb key version according to the ChuBerry model and later in the B and Bb key version according to the 6M model.

Tenor Conn ChuBerry (1929)

In the collection there is a very late tenor Conn ChuBerry/New Wonder 2, which is very special. It is listed as TS35 in the online collection of MROsaxophones.
This is undoubtedly one of the first Conn tenor saxophones that shows early signs of improvement. So this is actually one of the first Transitional models! I have compared this sax extensively with a normal Conn tenor ChuBerry (serial number M198xxx) and a slightly later Conn tenor (serial number M256xxx).

Buffet Crampon S1 clarinet

MRO Saxophones performed a series of Buffet Crampon clarinet overhauls and maintenance checks early 2022, including two S1 models. The S1 is a rather uncommon version and not that many were made during the 1970´s. The first one is an early one from 1974, and the second one is a late one from 1980. I notices some important differences between these S1 clarinets, and couldn´t find any info online on these differences. Both clarinets have the ´F´-prefix and were made for the European market.

The Buffet Crampon R13 is without doubt one of the best and most popular clarinets among serious and professional players. The first examples were built around 1954, and this model is still being produced in various versions and names. Around 1970 three variations on the standard model were made: the BC20, the S1 and the Academy Model. These models have small variations compared to a standard R13 and were built in small series at the time. Extensive information can be found on ClarinetPerfection.com. All three variants are present in the collection of MROsaxophones: an absolute rarity!
