General description : Lots of the New Wonder Series 2 (aka ChuBerry) alto´s were made between 1924 and 1930. All of the "Series II" horns had rolled tone holes and "nailfile" G# keys. Conn started changing the design of the alto and the Transitional alto´s were introduced end of 1929, shortly after the Great Depression. It´s rather easy to find a Chuberry alto through the online platforms, but most of them are in very worn condition and with lots of damage. They were also made in gold-plated version, with the famous Stenberg engravings. Beautiful horns, with a fantastic warm sound!
This specific ChuBerry alto is an early one and was built mid-1924. It has an unusual engraving, as this horn was made for the European market and exported to England. Some info found online: a small number of Conn alto saxophones were manufactured for The Saxophone Shop in London, England. These horns feature a different engraving and the following text on the bell `Sole English Agents – The Saxophone Shop – 40 Gerrards St – London´. These export saxophones also have one other unique feature: they lack the microtuner on the neck.

Condition : Definitely the first lacquer. No dents, no damage, no repair: in great condition. Only minor wear on a couple of the touch points on the keywork. There´s a small rust area near the thumb rest (see pictures). The unique bell engraving looks great! This horn has the original neck, without microtuner. The neck has no pulldown. All locking screws are present. The rollers are not original. The pads (with domed metal resonators) are all in good condition. The saxophone was overhauled by previous owner in 2016.
The horn comes with a vintage aftermarket double-case, with extra room for a flute. The case is in good condition and fully usable.
