General description : Online info found on the Buffet Crampon S1 clarinet :
The S1, Continentale and BC20, were all attempts to make darker, more focused sounding clarinets. The S1 Clarinet was Buffets answer to complaints about the R13 instrument tone colour. The S1 was designed as a top of the line instrument that features an inverse taper in the barrel and less undercutting on the tone holes than the R13 to give it a slightly brighter sound.
The instrument must be one of the first S1's made. The S1 clarinet plays with a robust, focused sound and excellent evenness and intonation. In the past players such as John McCaw and Mitchell Lurie played S1's.
