Artikel: Conn 26M VIII ´Connqueror´
Type : 26M VIII ´Connqueror´
Serial : 304580
Year : early 1942
General description : This is the famous Conn 26M VIII 'Connqueror' alto sax, definitely with original lacquer! This one has the silver plated keywork touchpoints. These are very free blowing horns! Lots of power, fast ergonomic keywork and a full sound. The VIII model is the best of the best and can withstand all tests with any saxophone. Highly sought after and still played by professional players these days.....
Not that many 26M horns were made. This one can be dated to early 1942, shortly after the Pearl Harbor attack that involved the US into WW2. Conn stopped their production of music instruments and manufactured altimeters and other mechanical instruments during the war: only very little instruments were manufactured between 1942 and 1946.
This must be one of the last 26M models. I owned serial 304600 as well and never noticed a 26M with a higher serial number. I strongly believe no 26M models were produced anymore after Conn stopped manufacturing saxophones due to WW2.
Condition : Overhauled by previous owner in 2022. This horn is without damage. No dents, no repairs, no dings. The rolled tone holes are in original condition. Light lacquer wear only. The neck has the VIII mark as well and fits perfectly. Microtuner is stuck.. The silver plated keywork is in perfect condition. Beautiful crisp-sharp engraving, both on the bell and at the serial number area. Very hard to find a 26M in this condition...
