Type : New Wonder series II (ChuBerry)
Serial : M170312
Year : early 1926
General description : Lots of the New Wonder Series 2 (aka ChuBerry) alto´s were made between 1924 and 1930. All of the "Series II" horns had rolled tone holes and "nailfile" G# keys. Conn started changing the design of the alto and the Transitional alto´s were introduced end of 1929, shortly after the Great Depression. It´s rather easy to find a Chuberry alto through the online platforms, but most of them are in very worn condition and with lots of damage. A couple were even made in gold-plated version, with the famous Stenberg engravings. Beautiful horns, with a fantastic warm sound!
This specific ChuBerry alto was built early 1926. It left the factory as bare-brass version and was lacquered later, most likely during an overhaul at the Conn factories.
Condition : This alto is not a real beauty, but it´s in good playing condition and sounds fantastic. Definitely the first lacquer. It shows the usual wear on the body and the keywork. There´s a couple of dings and 1 dent at the bottom bow section. I noticed solder repair spots on the high D post, the low Bb keyguard stud and the quick F post. All well done and hardly visible. All locking screws are present and the rollers are original. The pads (with flat metal resonators) are all in good condition. The saxophone was overhauled by previous owner in 2017. This horn has the original neck, with working microtuner. The neck has no pulldown.
The horn comes with a vintage case. The case is in good condition and fully usable.
